Kansas City Officially Moves Forward with Bluhawk

In August, Bluhawk received the necessary approvals to continue development from Overland Park officials. The next phases of development will further enrich the Kansas City metro with a focus on leisure, wellness and community. This innovative mixed-use destination is the next step in urban development for Kansas City, bringing businesses and residents together in one place.

Celebrating Progress

Price Brothers, the developers of Bluhawk, hosted a private broker event in late August to celebrate The City of Overland Park approving the STAR bond plan for the community. The approval of this plan is a crucial step in solidifying the execution of the development. It has resulted in a wave of tenant commitments, further demonstrating the sustainability and desirability of the Overland Park area.

Attendees heard from Bluhawk leadership, including Bart Lowen, VP of Development at Price Brothers; Luke Taylor, President of RoughRiders Sports Club; Chris Newlin, Overland Park City Council Member (Ward 6) and Chris Speciale, Senior VP at Western Retail Advisors, on how businesses can stand out in the marketplace at Bluhawk.

New Retail Headed for Overland Park

A key aspect of Bluhawk is to create a vibrant space for businesses to connect with residents through immersive retail opportunities. This dynamic ecosystem for consumers and companies alike is driving retailers to commit to the mixed-use community in Overland Park.

As a destination-anchored development, Bluhawk is already home to brands like Cosentino’s Market and Tropical Smoothie. Now, with approval for further development, new world-class retailers will join the mix. T.J. Maxx, the nation’s largest value retailer; AT&T, which services nearly half of the country; Freddy’s; Saltgrass Steak House; Cactus Grill; Panera Bread and Gyu-Kaku all announced their commitment to Bluhawk last month. These retailers showcase the added value Bluhawk is contributing to Overland Park and Kansas City, creating a destination for more than just community residents.

What This Means for Kansas City Businesses

A recent $6.5 billion investment in downtown Kansas City has revitalized the city. Small businesses, start-ups and companies like Cerner, Sprint and Garmin all call KC home.
