Overland Park, KS. Kansas City’s century-old, family-owned Price Brothers is proud to announce the greatly anticipated groundbreaking of the multi-sport complex within the overall $750 million, 277 acres mixed-use Bluhawk development. Funded both privately and through the use of STAR bonds, this 420,000-square-foot project will be built in two phases in the development, anchored by a neighborhood shopping center with an existing grocery store, restaurants and retail, with plenty more on the horizon. This multi-sport complex alone will drive a projected 3.8 million dollars in economic impact through new market sports and spending revenue to Overland Park in its first year of operation.

The Bluhawk sports facility will be Kansas City’s premier indoor multi-sport complex and regional sports hub. The first phase of the multi-sport complex, underway, will include four basketball courts, eight volleyball courts, eight pickleball courts, and an indoor turf field for soccer, futsal, baseball, football, rugby, and lacrosse. The indoor baseball training areas will include eight batting cages, eight pitching lanes, and an infield training area.

President of the Price Brothers, Mr. Kent Price, said, “The Bluhawk development is on the leading edge of youth and amateur competitive and recreational sports in Kansas City and across the country. Not only will we create meaningful economic impact through sports tournaments and large events, we will offer programs to enhance the health, wellness, and recreation opportunities of local athletes, children, and families.”

A true sports destination, the Bluhawk multi-sport complex will offer individual and team training for novice to professional athletes, as well as a variety of programs for participants of all ages: fitness classes, wellness activities, sports medicine, massage, functional training, nutrition, and physical therapy. The venue will provide two on-site food and beverage offerings, family entertainment amenities, and e-sports. Bluhawk will also be home to youth and adult amateur hockey leagues, offering one of the area’s only regulation-size ice sheets. Shooting lanes, a passing area, and skate rentals will be offered on-site. In addition to servicing the growing number of youth hockey players in the area, the ice sheet will also be open for public skating opportunities including programs like skating camps and lessons, stick and puck instruction, and open skate times.

With a 3,500-seat court component, the 250,000-square-foot first phase will be able to host student and family-oriented events such as graduations, state athletic competitions, and expos. This venue will connect our community by serving schools, colleges, sporting associations, and businesses. “Our headquarters is in Overland Park. We commit to building, owning, and operating our properties. Hence, we stay engaged with and accountable to the residents, workers, and community members who live, work or enjoy their leisure time within them,” said Price.

Groundbreaking of the first phase of the Bluhawk multi-sport complex is scheduled for December 7, 2022 at 10 am CST. This event is located right outside the Bluhawk Shopping Center where the sports facility is being built. Everyone is invited!

Mr. Price said, “When looking to name this facility, we wanted to find a quality partner with a long history and strong reputation in our community. We also wanted a partner that understands the importance of physical activity and helping people feel whole. We wanted a name everyone would recognize. We didn’t have to look too far. I’m pleased to announce Johnson County’s leading health system, AdventHealth, has secured the naming rights for this outstanding facility. And it will be known as AdventHealth Sports Park at Bluhawk.” That declaration was followed by a boisterous round of applause from the packed event.

Mixed-use community

Kansas City living is about to change. The boom of mixed-use communities in the real estate industry over the last few years is bound to impact the future of apartments in Overland Park. While many have heard of these new developments, they may not know all the benefits that come with living in these modern neighborhoods. Mixed-use areas provide plenty of great advantages to both renters and businesses alike.

What are Mixed-Use Communities?

Mixed-use communities are a budding type of development that combines the best of urban and suburban life. Rather than a detached home outside of the city, or an apartment complex downtown, mixed-use communities contain residential areas like single-family homes, apartments, grocery stores, gyms, hospitals and other amenities in a single neighborhood.

These communities are a growing response to the desire for community and entertainment when it comes to real estate. Millennials, in particular, are a driving force behind this shift. Young buyers want to move into a neighborhood with a welcoming community, convenient stores, restaurants and entertainment. Mixed-use developments like Bluhawk are here to make that happen.

How Mixed-Use Communities Will Change Apartments

The apartment industry hasn’t seen a shift this big in generations. With the exception of better housing codes and more amenities, renters have been working with the same market for decades. But now, mixed-use developments are changing things, like with apartments in Overland Park.

Rather than looking at square feet, whether there’s a pool, or neighborhood safety, the next generation of renters can, and should, ask for so much more. Access to healthy eating, the quality of local restaurants and more enhanced community features will overtake traditional factors when seeking a new place to live.

The Benefits of Mixed-Use Communities for Kansas City Living

There are tons of advantages of mixed-use living for Overland Park residents. When you pack in entertainment, culture and health into a single community, your entire lifestyle can change. Instead of just living, mixed-use developments provide the ability for residents of those communities to truly thrive.

One of the biggest benefits is car-free living. Many Americans rely on their car to get groceries, go to the gym and do other errands. But with a mixed-use development like Bluhawk, you can find everything you need within walking distance.

For example, Bluhawk residents can walk or bike to a doctor at AdventHealth, some of the top restaurants in Overland Park, and the Bluhawk Marketplace, filled with stores such as Three Dog Bakery and Verizon Wireless and restaurants like Red Door Woodfired Grill and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. After Phase 2 of development is complete, residents will have prime access to the Bluhawk Sports Park and Arena.

Mixed-use developments also provide a sense of community, something that many young people look for in apartments and when buying a house. The shared environment can create a sense of belonging for Overland Park residents.

Making Kansas City Living Better with Mixed-Use Communities

As Kansas City living accommodations evolve and adapt to change, mixed-use ideology will spread to conventional retail areas. However, true mixed-use developments like Bluhawk hold much more potential for cohesive lifestyles for residents of Overland Park. This shift in the market promises multiple benefits for renters, buyers and businesses alike. From car-free living to a thriving local marketplace, Bluhawk can create a happy, healthy community within Kansas City.

The much-anticipated BluHawk, a multi-faceted destination experience, will be home to the new store, located at 7781 W. 159th Street. It will be one of the first to open in the mixed-use development and will soon be joined by a sports park, community center and other attractions.

They’re the perfect pairing to the popular Fall Menu debuting this September.

Expanding in Kansas City has special meaning to the Kuntz family. “Kansas City is my second home, and very near and dear to our family for many reasons, not the least of which is that I was born here,” said Andy Kuntz, owner, and CEO of Andy’s Frozen Custard. “BluHawk promises to be an exciting new community and has shown us the same support we have received in all Kansas City-area locations. We love growing with the city, and we will continue to invest here, as we take great pride in putting ‘grins above chins’ by serving the most delicious frozen custard and treats.”

Andy’s Caramel Apples pair delightfully crisp and tart Granny Smith Apples with melt-in-your-mouth, hand-crafted crème caramel and a selection of toppings. Bursting with flavor, the caramel apples are hand dipped and spun in either Reese’s Pieces or Andy’s famous roasted pecans. For a treat that’s awesome to the core, a double caramel dip is also available.

Whether customers are looking for a way to cool down after museum and art gallery hopping, a sweet ending to the perfect grass-fed steak dinner, or celebrating a Royals, Mavericks or Chiefs win, Andy’s menu offers a treat for every occasion. Customer favorite, the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer™, made with Andy’s vanilla frozen custard, peanut butter and baked in-store brownies, and then “drilled and filled” with hot fudge, is a popular post-BBQ dessert.
